Short answer: your streaming apps work in Egypt, but most services show a different catalogue in each country, so a series you follow at home may not be there. The reliable way to keep it is to download the episodes in the app before you fly. Streaming over mobile data is possible, but video uses data quickly, and on our plan the full-speed data is about 1 GB a day.
Why the catalogue changes
Streaming services buy rights country by country. When you open the app abroad, it shows the catalogue of the country you are in. Some national broadcasters' apps do not open abroad at all. This is decided by each service, not by your connection, and it is the same on hotel Wi-Fi, on a local SIM and on any eSIM.
The reliable method: download before you leave
- Most large services let subscribers download films and episodes in their mobile app for offline viewing. Check the download option in each app you use.
- Download at home, on Wi-Fi, in the quality you want.
- Open each download once before you leave, and check its expiry: some downloads expire after a set time or once started.
- Do the same for music, podcasts and offline maps.
Downloads use no data in Egypt and do not depend on the catalogue there.
What we do not recommend
An earlier version of this page suggested a VPN to make a service believe you are at home. We no longer recommend that. Streaming services generally forbid it in their terms of use and block it when they detect it, and we name no VPN provider.
Streaming on mobile data in Egypt
Video is the heaviest thing most people do on a phone. On our plan, the first gigabyte or so of each day is at full 4G LTE speed, and after that the connection continues at 512 Kbps until the next daily reset. At 512 Kbps, music and podcasts play and messages work; video in high definition does not.
- Lower the video quality in the app's settings: it is the single most effective way to make the daily data last.

- If you intend to stream every evening on mobile data, choose a plan with a larger daily allowance. Other sellers publish 2 to 5 GB a day, and we list them in our comparison.
Where it works
Our coverage page shows 4G LTE in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea resorts. In Sinai's interior and in the Western Desert the signal drops to 3G or less: rely on downloads there. For durations and prices, see our plans.
